Sixth Grade Math Minutes

I first bought the 4th grade level math minutes and used it as morning seat-work for my students. It worked wonderfully at keeping my students busy and enhancing their skills. I love the math minutes so much that I bought 5th and 6th grade level (I teach 6th grade). I am going to start my students out at the beginning of the year with the 4th grade level book and have my students work up to the 6th grade level book.

The Children's Busy Book Review

I'm only in the middle of this book, but so far it's great! It's got some great ideas for kids 6-10. I have a 6 year old, so some of these activities are too old. But I know I have them to look forward to! I have 4 year old too, but I know that he can do many of the things with my 6 year old! The subtitle actually says "...6 to 10-Year-Old..." and not 7-9.

I am not disappointed in the book per se, but it surprised me to find that the majority of the suggestions were things that we were already doing. I think that this book would be great for first time moms, teenage moms or dads who don't carry a playlist of nursery rhymes in their iPod. The book does encourage you to use positive and encouraging language with the children which is something that many people benefit from a reminder once in a while (myself included). Borrow it if you can....buy a more advanced book if you think you've already got the basics down.

I found this gem at the library, now I'm going to buy a copy for myself! There are so many great ideas in here! I've read other books on the subject but haven't been very impressed. These ideas are practical, inexpensive, and clever. It includes recipes for things like playdough, and instructions for making your own affordable alternatives. Karen Miller had spent over twenty years in the business when this was written and it really shows in this wonderful, thoughtful book.

This is one of the many Tool Chest books we have used for a kid's Bible Study. We have been amazed at the impact it has had on our kids. In fact, a 3 year old in our group remembered what the prior study was about. We were shocked because it was 5 weeks since we had that study. It has been so valueable for our family.

I found this book to be very easy, it contains many crafts that you can do with little supplies, does not take a lot of time, and the kids love it. Also I found the singing and games to be useful for any mother who is trying to find her preschool or early elementary child something to do while they are at home.
Also the singing and games are great family activities.
A great value for the money.

I am ordering this book, my current volume of this book is from the library. This is an excellent book. I am a day care provider, and my children were thrilled with all the stuff we found inside this book. All of the materials were easy to get too. I highly recommend it to any teacher of preschoolers and up; and to every day care provider.

The Original Summer Bridge Activities: 2nd to 3rd Grade
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been using the summer bridge activity books for both of my children for the last couple of years. I think the books for primary grade children could be a little more challenging in the math area. Once you get to the 3rd-4th grade level they seem to be pretty close to school curriculum. If you are thinking of buying this for your k-3rd grade student you may find the need to supplement the math activities.

Summer Bridge Activities: 3rd to 4th Grade Review

Summer Bridge Activities: 3rd to 4th Grade
Average Reviews:

Engaging for the child. Mostly math and language activities of differnt types, styles, and complexities. Tasks get progressively harder toward the new school year. A good general purpose review and prep to keep skills fresh and build a few new ones before schools starts in August. Moderately well-illustrated. Encourages independent reading and offers a suggested reading list--though parents should review any of these books for appropriateness for their child. Books off this list that increase vocabulary and reading skill without frustrating your child are also very appropriate. The key is for the child to enjoy reading challenging materials--let your child choose what interests them as much as possible.
