(More customer reviews)I've used a lot of children's activities books--this is by far one of the best. The suggested activities (1)take advantage of things you already have around the house (no special trips to a pricey craft shop), (2)require minimal set-up, (3)provide the child an opportunity for creative independence, and (4)require minimal clean-up. You can literally open the book, point at random to an activity, and have your child happily involved within minutes. It works for all three of my kids--ages 3,5, and 8!

The Big Book for Toddlers (Big Book of . . . (Welcome Books)) Review

(More customer reviews)This is just right for our 3 year old daughter who likes to sing and do simple crafts. It helps Mom and Dad remember the words to classic nursery rhymes we haven't sung/heard in a long time. Love the vintage artwork. I agree with the other post about the lack of diversity, but that wasn't what I was expecting with this title anyhow. No surprises there. Our child just loves to look at the pages and flip through this on her own as well. I will be buying this as gifts for all my friends and family with 2-3 year old kids.

Summer Bridge Activities Grades 1-2 Review

(More customer reviews)While Summer Bridge has been a fairly decent way for my daughter to keep her skills fresh over the summer, it really wasn't challenging enough to hold her interest. She finished each day's work in about 10 minutes, and said she found the material boring. I think it'd be more useful to a child who needed a little remedial work before starting second grade. Much of the material was actually work that she'd done in kindergarten, and it's not as though my daughter's a prodigy; she's on a par with other children in a parochial school.
The other thing that annoyed me was incredibly sloppy editing - sorry, folks, but "gnat" is not spelled "knat", and there were a number of exercises that were misprinted. Since this isn't an inexpensive book, I don't appreciate spending money and finding it full of errors. Also, the instructions for some of the exercises were pretty unclear - there were a couple where I had to check the answers page to be sure of what my daughter needed to do. I'll hesitate before buying the same series next year, even though the concept is a sound one.

Sequencing: Cut and Paste Activities Review

Several are hard to figure out (for mom :)
Instead of cutting and pasting, I cut out each sequence and paper-clipped, so we could practice again.
They are not cards, just plain paper, so will tear easily.

It's just one of the 20 activities in Sequencing, Cut and Paste Activities many of which are open ended, that invite your kindergarten and first grade students to cut and paste a series of simple, charming illustrations.

Some of the picture stories included are:

a rabbit eating an ice cream cone
a bear going skiing

You don't need to make a million trips to the craft store, as most of the stuff I have around the house. It's broken up into seasons, holidays etc. Such fun creative things to do with the kids! Each activity also focuses on certain "attributes" if you will. Self esteem, working in a group...etc. Love it...did I say I love this book? :)

(More customer reviews)I bought this from a Borders Book Store YEARS ago and I absolutely love it!!! I'm in school now and I need another to hold up my notes and textbook. I have a metal one right now, and it's driving me insane enough that I'm going to purchase another one of these. There is a sticker on the back of mine directing me to bookchairusa.com. It looks like they are out of business now and these little book chairs are getting harder to find. Unfortunate.
I highly recommend this product. It's sturdy and does not collapse like the metal ones that you bend to open and close. You just have to adjust your book periodically. Not good for big softback textbook sas they fold over a bit, but there are creative ways to fix that (I put a notebook landscape style behind it for support). I always get really mad at myself every time I forget to pack it when I study in the library. Seriously, this thing is a god send for students.

(More customer reviews)For three years now, my Bookchair has sat faithfully on my kitchen counter, bearing all manner of books and magazines from erudite to dreck without complaint or unwanted commentary. As I'm a constant reader, it's a constant companion, and it's the only one I've found that's "stood up" to the task -- all the other book stands I've tried are flimsy and basically useless. The Bookchair also makes page turns easy, even on books that aren't exactly page-turners. I just gave one to a similarly literarily-afflicted friend for Christmas, and although her initial response was a singularly non-literary "huh?" she's a believer now, too.
The only drawback is it isn't deep enough to hold GIANT books like Stephen King's or John Irving's latest (maybe the "Large" model can?), but I suspect it could even support --GASP! -- a Kindle just fine. :-)

I have looked through several other books for kids about Michigan and I must say how impressed I am with this one. My 8 yr old daughter, 12 year old son and 14 yr old son all really like it. The actual color photos are great as some books just use illustrations. The book is written so a younger child can read it, but older kids can still enjoy it. We can't wait to take some of the day trips that the book recommends.

The Big Georgia Activity Book Review

(More customer reviews)This is a great book of activity sheets. While some pages are for older students, some can easily be used for older and younger students.
I'm using this book for my 2nd grader's home school. While this book can't be a source for a Georgia History curriculum alone, it can be a great resource for creating your own. It's easy to find the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) for the grade (8th or 2nd) and create your own curriculum. Think of the GPS as a checklist or a reverse scavenger hunt (This is what we need to learn about. Now, how do we do learn it?) The Georgia Public Library system (PINES) is a great and FREE resource. You can request books from other libraries in the PINES system.
This book could also be used by a teacher for regular school to supplement the curriculum supplied by the school.
