Geography Centers, Grades 4-5 Review

Geography Centers, Grades 4-5

My children absolutely loved working on this! They made the centers themselves (laminated and all) and then could not wait to actually get started on them. To be able to work on their own the cover recommends 4-5th grade, but with a parent a 3rd grader could do several of them. There are 12 File Folder Centers. Titles include...The Fifty States; Regions of the U.S.; North America Quiz; A World Puzzle; Mystery Countries; Looking at the Globe; Parts of a Map; Kinds of Maps; A Map Grid; Landfforms on Earth; Bodies of Water; and Time Zones of the U.S. There is a direction page to tape to the back of the folder (this tells how to make the center and has the directions for completeing that particular center); a cover for the front, full color materials for each center; reproducible record sheets; and a self-checking answer key.
I have used (too) many different map skills books trying to find one that they wouldn't get bored with. Well, I found it and this is it. Each folder offers a different way to learn the topic. I can't say enough about this book. I just wish I had found it before I wasted money on others. Buy it and your children will beg to do geography.

This book has some good ideas for writing, although a lot of the ideas are repeated throughout the book using a different topic. Overall I found the book helpful for first grade.

In my experience as an educational consultant, nearly every school is looking for affordable & easy ways to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of the wide range of learners in each classroom or grade level. This book fits the bill when considering extension activities or an alternate vocabulary curriculum for high achieving students. Love how it weaves in creative problem solving to peak kids' interest and pull them in! And you have the whole week (or just parts of, if you can't fit it in each day) laid out for you! One wish I have for the next edition would be more room to write sentences on Wednesdays's activities. Though that's easy to work around...

I like the activities but it would have been much easier if the book was not bound as I had to disassemble it to laminate the pages. Better yet, it could have already been laminated for me! Preparing the centers was very time consuming. Can't Evan Moore make it easier for busy teachers?
