Days ago I read Shelf Life by the same author which although lacked much of a plot was a pretty entertaining and fun light read. Although The Passenger Seat has a lot more structured plot it certainly can not be classified as entertaining. I only persisted with it because I had read Shelf Life and thought this may get better as I turned the pages.
The Passenger Seat is the story of a two unpopular loser kids who have no real friends growing up other than each other so form a tight bond. Written through the eyes of the lesser loser Wires, he explains how they weren't the most intelligent or motivated at school and Bones the bigger loser of the two is also not opposed to shop lifting. The Passenger Seat follows the story of their primary school days, then their high school days where they meet another loser, this time a female called Shell. The rest of the book just outlines how the three of them get into graffiti, each others pants and stumble through life being friends and enemies at various times throughout. Give this a miss, read Shelf Life or Corbet's second novel Fifteen Love instead.

Shell was the kick up the bum that Bones and me both needed. All of a sudden everything was an adventure again, like the time we first escaped from Central Avenue. Shell was a roly-smoking, law-breaking A-plus reject, and she had Bones and me going nuts for her right from the start. That was the hitch, basically. Because two's company, three's a maggot heap. The Passenger Seat is a story about friendship, sex and graffiti, about choice and destiny and the writing on the garage wall.

Four Seasons Stables: A Saddle Seat Riding Adventure Review

This is a great book. I like the sequel even better than the first book. The author notes in the front of the book that her illustrator is a child and was only 9 when she drew the pictures for the first book and 11 when she illustrated the second book. A child illustrating a children's book is pretty neat, I think! Cole is very knowledgeable about horses. I like that the book includes accurate information about Amercian Saddlebreds and a glossary. Both books are filled with that love that little girls have for horses, and the second book especially has many other things that are special to little girls: adventure, mystery, secrets, and a locket. I definitely recommend both books to other moms for their children.

Caroline Meadows loves horses and saddle seat riding. At Four Seasons Stables, she helps groom and tack the horses, clean stalls and teach the beginners. In return, Miss Buckley gives Caroline lessons for free. Caroline's parents can't afford to buy their little girl a horse, but in Caroline's heart, all the horses are her very own. Even so, she has a special place in her heart for a gorgeous American Saddlebred mare named Autumn Leaves. Life at the stable is great except for one problem—Bretta Nobs. Bretta delights in taunting Caroline and pointing out that Caroline is "just a groom." Bretta is also cruel to her National Show Horse, Dazzle, and one day Caroline has had enough. That's when the real trouble begins. This horse tale reminds readers that through hard work, any dream is possible, whether you're rich, poor or somewhere in between. It also incorporates much of the vocabulary used and includes an extensive glossary. There is a page for entering information about the reader's favorite horse, and a page listing contact information for the American Saddlebred, Arabian, Morgan and National Show Horse breed associations, so young riders can learn more about the horses they love.

I just got this book in the mail today and immediately dove in to check out the latest craft book offering. I could immediately tell it was a great purchase and after I finished it I'm convinced it's one of the best craft books I've bought to date. (and I seem to buy everyone that comes out) The book comes with a big fat stack of patterns in the back, which I love, I hate paying $$ for a book and then having to draft my own pieces or slog to the copiers to print and increase 37% or whatever... And, it comes with patterns for things I will actually make! It has really great simple clothing patterns for babies to 5t, toy/activity patterns, outside play ideas, I know I will get a lot of use from this book. Perhaps the best thing about the book is the little ideas and Montessori activities that she sprinkles throughout the book. This isn't a Montessori book persay, anyone can use and love it, but I really love the respectful Montessori method and these little ideas and reminders were great to see paired up with loving handmade ideas to make for my family. If you have young children and love to make things for them to wear, play, or use, then definately buy this book!

Chilling Tales from the Porcelain Seat Review

Chilling Tales from the Porcelain Seat
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Chilling Tales from the Porcelain Seat is a compilation of plumbing stories featuring the stars of Ghost Hunters.
Who hasn't had a plumbing horror story to share? We've all had plumbing mishaps, both big and small, and some are more hilarious, frightening and down-right unbelievable.
The plumbing geniuses of Roto-Rotor have gathered all the most interesting tidbits and tales and have put them together into this one book, to share them with all the "arm chair" plumbers. They show you the outcome of those DIYers who think they're going to save a few dollars, only for it to cost them more. When it comes to electricity and plumbing, it is warned, to get a professional to handle the situation. The jobs may look simple, but there is a reason these professionals are paid the wages they are.
We get some very interesting tales of the toilet, historical facts as well as, hands on experience tales! We read about the types of things typically found inside of our drains, most of them are too disgusting to mention. We learn the danger of tree roots and the havoc they can instil once they reach your pipes and the work it takes to remove them. They share with the reader interesting facts about flushing, the type of flushers humans are, yes, they have everyone classified into a flush type personality! They also tell you what to do in case of emergencies, how to winterize your pipes and so much more!
I thought some of the tales were interesting, some didn't make sense, some didn't belong and some were funny! I thought the title of the book to be misleading, I was thinking along a more paranormal line of tales, especially with Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson being involved, but that wasn't the case. Though they do share a few "creepy" tales, it wasn't what I had expected.
It's a very dry read, written in a matter of fact approach that isn't very warming to the reader. I would've liked to have seen some personality upon the pages, giving the stories a more added appeal instead of it appearing like you were reading an email! While I found the historical facts interesting, there just wasn't enough of them. The same with the pictures, I wished there were more of them laced throughout the pages.
However, the book wasn't a horrid one, it is filled with many things homeowners should know, like the DIY Don'ts and water shortage fact sheets! I would recommend this for any DIYer, arm chair plumbers or for those who like to read real life accounts of folks in everyday situations! It would make a perfect Father's Day gift!!

Hi! I love this book, every activity has a picture, so you know how to do it properly. I love that it does not require to buy tons of toys! One piece of advice though, there are two other Gymboree Play & Music, one for babies, and one for toddlers... buy this book instead of those two, its cheaper, and they have exactly the same!!!
My baby is 3 months old, and ejoys this activities so much!!!! We have a daily schedule to develop different areas!!!! Its a great companion for play time, and I really, really, really recommend it!!!
Take care, and have a nice day!!!

I am a preschool teacher who has taught kindergarten and 4 yr olds. Having been asked to take a new job with 2 and 3 yr olds was a lot more difficult than I thought! With all the choking hazzards and lack of fine motor skills, it's hard to plan lessons. This book gives some excellent activity ideas. I loved it. My only negative thought is that the book doesn't really follow "themes", which almost all schools use these days. Still it's a great buy!

25 Mini-Lessons for Teaching Writing (Grades 3-6) Review

25 Mini-Lessons for Teaching Writing (Grades 3-6)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This book is fantastic! Our son (age 9) is extremely bright and a good reader and has always been an excellent student. Now in 3rd grade, there is an emphasis on writing in his classroom and for some reason he developed what the teacher described as a "mental block" about writing, because he didn't know how to get started. He would get anxious and upset and end up in tears, saying "I don't know what to write."
I bought a few different books to help with the challenge, and this book was by far the most valuable. It got him past his mental block. He and I do one mini-lesson each week at home, on the weekends when we are relaxed. The mini-lessons are short, focused and fun. In just a few short weeks, our son has made progress both at home and in the classroom. I even consulted with a professional tutor in our area, who said that we were on the right track by using this book - she was very impressed with it.
Thank you Adele Fiderer!
