I love this book. It has been a great resource for me as a parent of two small boys and I have recommended it to many friends. I liked the easy to read format. As a mom on the go, I can quickly flip to the section I want to read at the moment and use the fun activities. I know a few teachers in my area that keep this book in the classroom.

Family Funbook Review

Family Funbook
Average Reviews:

The ideas in this book are easy to do, not very expensive and for the most part, don't require anything exotic. There are suggestions for trips to take, things to do on trips, holidays, and more. There are ideas for making every day special, seasons, games for the whole family and more.
If you can remember to look over this book at times, you will find a wealth of ideas for just about anytime (hospital stays, new baby, hot days, rainy days etc.) Our family will probably not even come close to doing half of the things in this book. However, everything we have done has been fun.
We made the sugar eggs for some of the kids in the playgroup and they were a big hit.
This book is sure to help you enjoy the time you have with your children. IT has helped our family to explore new things and try new ideas.
Enjoy.

Creative Art & Activities: Fun with Art Review

Creative Art and Activities: Fun with Art
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great book, one that really packs in the art projects that you see parceled out little by little in other books. Here you get 380 pages of art ideas, very clearly presented, with easy instructions and helpful drawings, for $30; whereas other publishers would turn this into six individual $15 books.
This book would be ideal for teachers, Sunday school teachers, parents, day care providers, etc.
The sections (each roughly 60 pp.) are:
Part 1. Clay, play dough, modeling materials
Part 2. Crayons, chalk, markers
Part 3. Painting
Part 4. Puppets
Part 5. Print making
Part 6. Paper art

The creative possibilities are endless with this book that focuses on traditional art mediums for children ages 2-8. By emphasizing the process rather than the final project, these activities open a great arena for creativity, self-expression, and exploration for children and for their parents or teachers. Each book boasts at least 50 activities that will develop an appreciation of traditional art mediums. Activities are written in an easy-to-follow "cookbook" format and begin with a list of developmental goals and required materials. Helpful Hints make for a smooth experience, and Variations show how each experience can be expanded on. The Index by Ages makes it easy to find age-appropriate activities.

Medieval Life (Eyewitness Workbooks) Review

Medieval Life (Eyewitness Workbooks)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this item for a medieval unit I was doing with my homeschooled 12yr. old son. My goal was to find appropriate material that would offer him some variety from the necessary, but sometimes boring worksheets, to go with his reading. This was a GREAT choice. He really enjoyed the reading and the muliply kinds of activities in the book. I was afraid he would find some of the activities (such as the sticker pages) to be too childish for him, but he liked those to! After reading the workbook and doing the activities he enjoyed it enough that we went on to build a castle and a working catapult!
When he was in public school, my son was coded with an LD in written expression, but he often struggled with the assigned reading materials. Although he has made great strides in his reading ability, he still tends to shy away from it. It was wonderful to find a whole workbook that he was willing and eager to read by himself. Honestly this workbook had a lot more to offer than I thought it would. For the price I really wasn't expecting a whole lot, but was pleasantly surprised to find I got more than I bargained for!

As a lifelong Chicagoan, I find this work outstanding. It includes many hands-on activities for kids, such as making a mini-glacier, constructing a simulated Native American longhouse, making a replica of a pinhole camera, using a pan to make a simulated Chicago River watershed, etc.
Topics covered include the Indian past (including the Bowman site and the Blue Island culture), the early fur traders, pre-Fire Chicago, the Chicago Fire, the rapid rebuilding, the Stockyards and consequences of industrialization, various social issues, the 1968 Democratic Convention, the ascension of Harold Washington to the Office of Mayor, etc. An extensive bibliography in the back of the book allows the reader to do further research on this dynamic city.

This is one of the many Tool Chest books we have used for a kid's Bible Study. We have been amazed at the impact it has had on our kids. In fact, a 3 year old in our group remembered what the prior study was about. We were shocked because it was 5 weeks since we had that study. It has been so valueable for our family.

In my experience as an educational consultant, nearly every school is looking for affordable & easy ways to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of the wide range of learners in each classroom or grade level. This book fits the bill when considering extension activities or an alternate vocabulary curriculum for high achieving students. Love how it weaves in creative problem solving to peak kids' interest and pull them in! And you have the whole week (or just parts of, if you can't fit it in each day) laid out for you! One wish I have for the next edition would be more room to write sentences on Wednesdays's activities. Though that's easy to work around...

3-2-1: Time for Parachute Fun Review

3-2-1: Time for Parachute Fun
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this because I lead a story time at a local library with the primary age of participants being 2. This book is not practical for that age range! There probably four activities in the whole book that is applicable to that age group. Secondly I thought they renamed many of the same concepts and presented them as a whole new idea. I think this would be great for someone who uses their parachute more than weekly with older children.

Children love parachute play. They get the chance to move around, be silly, and have fun. But there's more to parachute play than games. The activities in 3-2-1: Time for Parachute Fun are sure to get kids laughing while they're learning to count, cooperate, follow directions, and move their bodies in new ways. With activities that promote social and emotional growth, imaginative play, and listening and communication skills, this fantastic resource provides parents, teachers, and caregivers with plenty of ideas to get children moving and learning. The book is divided into three parts:The introduction offers safety tips, information on purchasing a parachute, and ideas for more fun ways to use parachutes. The chapter "Parachute Games-No Props Necessary" includes activities that only require a parachute, like "The Parachute Pokey," "Under the Big Top!" and "In My Tent." The last chapter, "Playing Parachute Games with Props," is full of activities that use easy-to-find props, including: "Into the Bucket You Go!" "Matching Pairs," and "All Dressed Up."Each activity includes step-by-step instructions, and many also include ideas for expanding activities to support further learning. Children ages three to ten will love having fun with these easy and fun activities.
