I travel a lot for work, and a friend recommended this book to me. I was surprised to see that nobody had reviewed it yet, but I went ahead and got it anyway. I'm very glad that I did.
This is a great book, with very down to earth practical advice. The book is primarily intended for airline travel, but all of the ideas translate well to any other form of public transportation. There are general life lessons in here as well. It's not a preachy book, by any means, it's almost conversational in it's tone. But the messages that it conveys are very clear: pay attention to the world around you and take ownership of your life and your safety. The authors include several visualization exercises in the book to help overcome any personal fears that you may have with the idea of taking action in the event of an incident, and those visualizations can be used for any other fears that you have. There's a lot of good knowledge in this book. Peppered with quotes from famous historical figures that accent the book's underlying messages, the book is easy to read and insightful.
Anyone who travels for work, wants easy techniques for taking control of their life or just wants some practical safety tips should get this.

Get Out of Your Seat!: An Average Passenger s Guide to Overcoming Airline Terror is the first book written about the physical and psychological aspects of airline safety for the everyday traveler. In this book you will learn easy and natural ways to defend yourself and confront any fear or apprehension you may have in dealing with the unseen dangers of air travel. This book is as real as it gets! I highly recommend this to anyone who travels. You do not need to be a martial arts expert or a large, strong male. Anyone can do the things in this book to save his or her life or the lives of others in a terrorist or violent situation. Read the book, practice the skills it teaches you and have a long happy life! Dick Severance, Budo Taijutsu Master Instructor and former Navy UDT
