The title got my attention! I had no knowledge of the Voice of America radio broadcasts, a part of our government, because it was not broadcast in America!
Mrs. Philomena Jurey, now retired, published her book in 1995 in order that her contribution as a reporter and broadcaster for the VOA for fourteen years, would give Americans full knowledge. Sitting with the American press corp, traveling with them thru the Nixon, Ford, Carter and Reagan presidencies, observing and reporting by radio beamed around the world, Mrs. Jurey enjoyed a distinction most of us were unaware of - she was a celebrity of sorts in Russia, China, and other countries.
This is an informative book, but also very enjoyable as Mrs. Jurey names familiar folks in government and in the press, gives us her first hand observations about major events and the presidency, and what it was like being a radio reporter whose broadcasts were in many languages! She is one smart cookie and I thoroughly enjoyed her book and unique contribution to American history during those presidential years.
